I had a strange call for a CO alarm going off.  I started reading more CO in the hot water leaving the tap then in the exhaust vent.

It turns out the water was reacting with the aluminum anode causing sludge to form in the bottom of the water heater.  This water heater was brand new and barely used.  Rheem RHE Direct Vent.

See the attached Bulletin below.

And I have to thank the TSSA for help with this one.

Almonte, Ontario residents beware.  Your water is no good!

Hi admin, when you say TSSA ..did you call them or call an inspector for help? I just want to know how you went about asking the TSSA?

It was a rental water heater and the builder called TSSA.  My job was only to make sure there was no problem with the installation.  I knew the CO issue was a problem with the water or water heater so I advised them to call the City and rental company to sort it out.
