GAS OR PROPANE FUELLED POWER VENT WATER HEATERS ALSO KNOWN AS “SUPERFLUES”
MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 1992 – 1997
GSW Water Heating, in co-operation with the water heater rental companies and the
Technical Standards and Safety Authority, have recently completed a random survey of PV
water heaters manufactured between 1992 and 1997. In a portion of the units surveyed, an
abnormal condition with respect to carbon monoxide emissions was found around the
lower burner door opening. Although the data gathered to date shows that the risk of CO
accumulation within the living space is very low, GSW and their customers have launched
a targeted inspection and repair program.
This program involves:
• Continued inspection, data collection, analysis and repair (as required) on customer
initiated service calls.
• Initiate focused campaigns on the selected segments of the water heater population
that appear to have a propensity for this occurrence.
GSW Water Heating in co-operation with The Technical Standards and Safety Authority
will be monitoring the effectiveness of the “as found” voluntary data collection and where
appropriate add/or eliminate specific segments of the population from further inspections.
