I just want to pass along some info about getting my furnace fixed. The intermittent problem appears to have been the igniter. Three techs came out and did not examine or evaluate the igniter adequately.

Background. Trane XV90 furnace installed in late 2006. I previously stated that the furnace was not kicking into the second stage. At first the second stage would work at times, but the house would not always hold 68. It would go to 55 to 64 depending on how cold it was outside. The furnace would show 2 blinking red lights or lockout.

The first tech jumped it and tested it twice and said all was working. It wasn't.

The second tech examined the furnace, cleaned the flame sensor, and said I should get a new flame sensor. The furnace did work for about 2 months afterwards.

The third tech said the voltage to the igniter was too low and I should get a new control board, or even a new furnace.

After the third tech visit I researched more about control boards and igniters. I came across info that said voltage to Trane furnace igniters should be low (approx 80v). So I thought it may be the igniter, took it out, it looked pretty cruddy, bought a new one, and it the furnace now seems to work.
