Clause (8.9.6) -
(a) Until July 1, 2008, vents constructed using plastic piping shall be certified to ULC S636 except for special fittings (non standard vent sizes and components) which may include:
  a. entire vent systems supplied with the appliance that are not comprised of standard vent sizes and components;
  b. transitions with or without condensing lines; and
  c. termination kits.
(b) After July 1, 2008, vents constructed using plastic piping shall be certified to ULC S636.

Trinity Boiler Recall

NY Thermal Inc. has determined that the condensate fitting located within the boiler may prematurely deteriorate. As NY Thermal Inc. cannot predict the occurrence of the anomaly, the condensate fittings must be replaced immediately.

Models Covered
All Trinity boilers manufactured between Nov. 28, 2005 and Jan. 8, 2007, or serial numbers greater than 06T-16000 must be upgraded. See diagram for location of information.

What to Do
1. If your boiler was manufactured between Nov. 28, 2005 and Jan. 8, 2007, contact the person you purchased the unit from and advise that you require an immediate and mandatory safety update.
2. If you are unsure if your unit falls between the specified dates, contact NY Thermal Inc. and we will determine this for you. Please provide the serial number displayed on the silver decal on the outer casing of the boiler. (Example 06T-1234)

Laars Heating Systems - Gas Boilers and Water Heater Recall

Laars 9600 CB/HWG Recall

In cooperation with CSA International, Laars Heating Systems Company of Rochester, New Hampshire announces the voluntary recall in Canada of approximately 82 units of the 9600 CB Series Condensing Boilers and 9600 HWG Series Condensing Water Heaters. Internal black plastic venting components in the boilers and water heaters can crack and leak flue gases, including carbon monoxide (CO), posing a risk of CO poisoning.

No injuries or incidents have been reported.

This recall involves the Laars 9600 CB Condensing Boilers and Laars 9600 HWG Condensing Water Heaters. The CB series is installed as a space-heating appliance to generate hot water used in a closed-system loop for hydronic heating systems, such as baseboards or radiant flooring. The HWG series is installed as a water heater to generate hot water for domestic use, such as showers, sinks and dishwashers. Consumers can identify the units by the label on the front that includes the headline �Mark II� at the top and then either �9600 CB� or �9600 HWG� directly under the headline. The jacket colours are either putty and black, or taupe (dark grey) and black. On the right side, a data plate repeats the information, and also contains the specific model number and BTU size as indicated below. Only the following product names and model numbers are included in this recall:

Models CB 250 and HWG 250 are manufactured with an internal CPVC vent pipe (grey in colour) and are not included in this recall. Any 9600 CB or 9600 HWG boiler or water heater with internal CPVC vent pipe (grey in clour) is not affected by this recall.

The affected models were sold nationwide from November 1998 through February 2007.

If the exhaust pipe is black and your product is included in this recall, consumers should contact the Laars Service Department to arrange for a free repair. In addition, consumers should visually inspect their appliance for any evidence of cracked or deformed internal vent material, including moisture inside the jacket or white residue inside or outside of the jacket. If there is any of this evidence, the unit should be shut down and the consumer should contact the Laars Service Department immediately. Call Laars Service Department at (905) 844-8233 extension 227 between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. EST, Monday to Friday, to schedule a no-cost replacement of the affected part or visit www.Laars.com. The website will have an email link to contact the manufacturer. Have your model and serial numbers available.

Ontario Power Authority Rebate

The Hot Savings Rebate program ended March 31, 2007. Beginning April 1, The Cool Savings Rebate program will encourage Ontario residents to reduce their electrical energy costs and help reduce the load on Ontario's electricity grid by providing rebates and coupons.

What is the Cool Savings Rebate Program?

The Cool Savings Rebate program encourages Ontario residents to install energy efficient heating and cooling systems, when replacing their existing systems by providing the following rebate offers;

  * $50 REBATE for the installation of a programmable thermostat. The programmable thermostat must be supplied and installed by a program registered contractor;
  * $50 REBATE for an air conditioner tune-up. Tune ups must be completed on existing Central Air Conditioning (CAC) system, in accordance with the program checklist by a program registered contractor;
  * $100 REBATE for the replacement of an existing furnace with an ENERGY STAR�- qualified/ECM-equipped mid � efficiency furnace or air handler;
  * $250 REBATE for the replacement of an existing furnace with an ENERGY STAR�- qualified/ECM-equipped high efficiency furnace or air handler;
  * $350 REBATE for the replacement of an existing Central Air Conditioning (CAC) system with an ENERGY STAR�- qualified system;
  * $750 REBATE for the replacement of an existing Central Air Conditioning (CAC)/furnace or air handler system with an ENERGY STAR� tier II CAC and ECM system.
